Trip Overview

  • Get closer to giant Alaska grizzlies, in a wilder setting, than anywhere else on earth
  • Coastal cruising on our small ship allows unparalleled access for bear watching
  • Explore Kodiak Island’s prolific marine life by boat

In a flash of liquid silver, a salmon dashes through the shallow river. With water splashing and ground thundering, an Alaskan brown bear races to capture it's salmon with a spectacular dive worthy of an olympic athlete. The water boils as several Alaska grizzlies, the largest grizzlies in the world, perch on its banks to gorge on the river’s bounty during this annual summer feast. This where the river tumbles into the sea. This is where the salmon begin their journey up stream, and this is where the bears are waiting.

When they aren't chasing salmon, the brown bears of Katmai foraging for clams on the sand flats and graze on the nutrient rich sedge flats near shore. Here in Katmai National Park in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness, our Alaskan grizzly bear tours offer a rare encounter with Ursus arctos in all its wild majesty.

In 2010 and 2011 the July 8 departures are dedicated Photo trips which means they will have one extra day on the boat (8 days total).

Please Note: There are several options for this trip. Please call to find the one that best fits your needs.

Group Size Limit: Approximately 6 Travelers

Physical Requirements
Moderate
This Alaskan grizzly bear tour does not require a high degree of physical fitness. However, we do ask that travelers be of sound mental & physical health and maintain a positive attitude in a wild atmosphere.
